Is it a flush-mount item or does it require a cavity in the wall? If this is the case what is the size of that cavity?

This item is close to flush but not exactly as the face place of this item sticks off the wall 1/2 inch. The item itself is 9-1/4 inches tall and 12 inches in width. This item will fit into the wall with these dimensions- The unit is 10-1/4 inches in width, 3-3/4 inches in depth, and 7-3/4 in height.
