5/5 StarsBest Handheld foam cutter | I have been in the upholstery business almost 20 years, and have worked in the aviation, marine, automotive, and commercial upholstery industries throughout my career. The Bosch foam saw is undoubtedly the best hand held foam cutter. The versatility of different blade lengths allows diversity of materials and applications. I have used one for years and the durability of the motor is outstanding. I have in the past used a battery powered unit and have since been told that it is not being produced anymore. I believe that if a rechargeable unit were available it would be a good seller.

4/5 StarsBosch 1575A foam saw | I'm a professional custom motorcycle seat builder and have been using the 1575A saw for years... before that, the 1575.
This "new" version, although a bit larger in the body or handle, has a MUCH improved switching assembly, which was, to me, the WORST part of the earlier model. As it wore, it became very unreliable… it used the electrical contacts as the switch ratchet surfaces.

I "reconstruct" off and on road motorcycle seats, making them wider, lower, taller, firmer and softer... what ever needs to be done to fit the bike to the customer’s individual dimensions.
I use a Bosch 1575A foam saw every day... in fact, I have two in regular use, with a third new-in-the-box unit as back-up, waiting on the shelf. I use two saws so that when one gets hot, I can switch and allow it to cool.

This is the only saw made the will allow the control to perform the fine shaping, feathering and fractional trimming required to build a perfect seat… and I’m an obsessive perfectionist, so I know what I’m talking about.
I use viscoelastic foam exclusively, from soft to firm, and this is the only saw that allows me the required fine hand control to remove paper thin slivers of foam as needed.

This saw, used by a hobbyist and properly cared for, would last for years... decades.
For me, I have to sharpen blades (12") every 2 weeks, and have to replace them every 2-3 months. I usually can get a blade guide to last thru 2 sets of blades.
I have to disassemble the top cover and clean and lubricate the drive gears, bearings and reciprocating arms (that move the blades back and forth) every two weeks.
I also have to replace brushes 2-3 times a year, and armatures once a year.
The point I'm making is that, yes, these parts wear out, but they are easily replaced. These saws are "rebuildable" over and over again... and that's the key point for a professional. You can’t afford to throw tools away when they don’t perform to spec, you have to be able to rebuild them as needed, on the spot.

If you want the best foam saw money can buy, one that allows supreme control and precise cutting... this is the one.
If you use it occasionally, it will outlive you. If you use it regularly, it will require some care, but there's nothing out there that's better, more reliable or more accurate.

I've given it a 4 star rating, only because nothing is perfect... a gear box that could be lubricated from the outside without dissassembly would be a wonderful thing. Not gonna happen, but a wonderful thing none the less.
