Wire Connectors

Wire connectors are used to join two pieces of wire together in a way that is safe and secure. There are two basic types of wire connectors: one is called a push-in connector, and the other, more common, variety is called a twist-on connector. Twist-on wire connectors are available in a variety of sizes and shapes and are typically made from plastic, with a tapered, conducting metal coiled insert that threads onto the wires to hold the wires secure. If a wire connector is going to be used outside, there is a variety of twist-on connector that contains a specially formulated corrosion-resistant compound that helps to keep out moisture. Push-in connectors are small square connectors that contain a number of holes designed to accept and connect wires. While easier and more fool-proof, push-in connectors can only accept solid wire and not braided wire.
