A fuse is a device installed in electrical applications to protect against overcurrent (when a circuit draws more current than was originally intended). The essential component of a fuse is a metal wire or strip that melts when too much current flows through it, which breaks the circuit in which it is connected, thus protecting the circuit's other components from damage due to excessive current.
